Piercings and tattoos are body decorations that go back to ancient times. There are African folk stories of our early parents inking marks or names on their children for easier recognition. Today however, tattoos are more fashion inclined! These tattoos are done using needles and coloured ink by tattoo artists. Body piercing involves making a hole in the skin so that you can insert jewellery. this is mostly done on the earlobes but many people push the limit further and have piercings in their tongue, eye brow, nose, lips, nipples to mention a few.
There are however health and safety risks that come with these procedures which you must keep in mind. Here are some simple tips:

For Tattoos:
»Never perform tattooing at home.
»You should get your tattoo from a reputable and licensed studio because employees in such facilities are well trained to ensure that procedures are done in a way that minimizes the transmission of communicable diseases and the risk of any infection.
»Ensure the tattoo studio is clean, the tattooist is a licensed professional and follows basic sanitary procedures.
»Cleaning products and sterilizing equipment such as autoclaves are available and used. Autoclaves are the only acceptable sterilizers.
