The R&B star was given a 30-year sentence on June 29 after he was convicted of racketeering and sex trafficking.
This is as Kelly is to separately face trial in August in Chicago on child sex images and obstruction charges.
But before R. Kelly reports to prison to serve his three-decade sentence, is he going to the wedding chapel? One of his alleged victims, Joycelyn Savage, says they’re engaged.
Back on June 28, AllHipHop broke the news that one of R. Kelly’s alleged victims, Joycelyn Savage, revealed in court documents prior to his sentencing that they are engaged to be married. The letter, reportedly sent to Judge Anne Donnelly, was delivered in the hopes the judge would consider it during sentencing.
“My name is Joycelyn Savage, and I’m Robert Kelly’s fiancé,” the 26-year-old disclosed to Judge Ann Donnelly on June 13 in the letter, which Page Six obtained.
“I’m writing this letter in support of Robert in advance of his sentencing, so I can explain to the court that I’m not the victim that the government has portrayed me to be.”
Savage, who was one of Kelly’s two live-in girlfriends, raved in the letter about her relationship with the “I Believe I Can Fly” singer, 55, saying they share a “special connection” and “deep love.”
“Robert is not the monster that the government has described him to be,” she added. “The Robert I know is very sweet, gentle, and kind. At the end of the day, he has always made sure that I’m taken care of, and any other women he was with as well.”
Savage continued to praise Kelly’s character, calling him an “all-around incredible person” who “takes any opportunity he can to help those in need.”
The aspiring singer then denied the allegations made about the disgraced R&B star, noting that “the things that have been said about him, with me and other women being held against our will is absolutely untrue.”
“Robert and I are deeply in love and it breaks my heart that the government hascreated a narrative that I’m a victim,” she concluded. “I’m a grown woman, and can speak for myself which is why I wanted to provide this letter to the court.”
Savage previously has stood up for Kelly, including in a high-profile CBS interview with Gayle Kingin 2019 alongside Azriel Clary, another of Kelly’s live-in girlfriends at the time. Both young women defended their relationship with the “I Believe I Can Fly” singer and disputed their families’ allegations that they were being held against their will.
About two weeks after Savage submitted her letter to the judge, Kelly, 55, was sentenced to three decadesin prison. Donnelly didn’t seemed to be swayed by Savage’s words, going beyond the prosecution’s request that Kelly spend “in excess of 25 years” behind bars.
“Although sex was certainly a weapon that you used, this is not a case about sex. It’s a case about violence, cruelty and control,” the judge told the disgraced singer at his sentencing, while also ordering him to pay a $100,000 fine.
R Kelly, whose real name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, again came face to face with his accusersduring the sentencing hearing in Brooklyn as several of the women recounted the pain he inflicted on them, telling him that they are “no longer the preyed-on individuals we once were,” the Associated Press reported.
“You made me do things that broke my spirit. I literally wished I would die because of how low you made me feel. Do you remember that?” one woman asked the fallen R&B star in Brooklyn court as he awaited sentencing.
