The National sleep foundation, a non-governmental foundation set up to inform and educate people around the world about the importance of sleep brought together a few scientists to work on the particular number of sleep time each person needs to keep his or her body in balance and the result of their work is below.
Newborns (0-3 months ): 14-17 hours each day
Infants (4-11 months): 12-15 hours
Toddlers (1-2 years): 11-14 hours
Preschoolers (3-5): 10-13 hours
School age children (6-13): 9-11 hours
Teenagers (14-17): 8-10 hours
Younger adults (18-25): 7-9 hours
Adults (26-64): 7-9 hours
Older adults (65+): 7-8 hours
But the again, you might say why do I need this much sleep? Only lazy people for more that four hours. Sleep is for losers. Well friend, you are maltreating your body and at a point in time, it would fight back! Here are a few thing you might be going to your body and some side effects of not getting enough sleep.
# Are you always feeling tired, depressed, anxious and unable to concentrate at work or anything you do? First advice you should heed is to get some sleep because you aren’t!
# Your body has been programmed to cool off and prepare for the new day and there is a certain period of time that should be done. If the body is not allowed to carry our this sort of refueling and daily maintenance, the body will definitely wear out due to the stress on it resulting in all sorts of sicknesses from chronic headaches to body pains, swollen eyes, loss of weight and tiredness.
# Some long term effects of inadequate sleep include diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity and numerous cardiovascular diseases.
# Sleeping well keeps you healthy and we’ll but a lack of good quality sleep could affect your immune system and make you more susceptible to infections. Researchers have found that those who average 7 hours or less of sleep are more prone to go down with cold.
# Not getting enough sleep affects your health and this would in turn affect your productivity. It is because you are healthy that you can carry out your daily activities. Once your body begins to feel the stress, you will definitely have to stop a lot of activities which could mean you losing your job or a golden opportunity to excel.
Good health is better than all the money and fame in this world. It is important to take good care of your self first and sleep is one important exercise you should never take for granted.
